28 yr old white female seeking recipient for shared cycle

Postby Crystal_C » Wed Sep 19, 2007 8:55 pm

Hello,

My name is Crystal and my husband and I have been TTC since April 2006. After four medicated timed intercourse/IUI cycles, we are moving on to IVF. In doing so, we would like to donate half of my retrieved eggs to a recipient. We are considering participating in a shared egg program, but would like to find a recipient on our own. Many programs offering egg sharing prefer anonymity when it comes to their donors; this is acceptable, but not ideal for me. I would prefer that the recipients have as much identifying information about me as possible so that they can choose whether or not to contact me, regardless of the reason, as time progresses. I'm not asking for an open relationship, but I do think it is important that they have my information.

I am 28 years old, have light brown hair and gray/green eyes, fair/light skin (I often burn first, but hold my light tan very well). I am 5'5\", my mother is 5'4\", my grandmother 5'2\". I weighed 120-130lbs until I was about 22, at which point I went up to about 140 (I think that was a perfect weight for me...I have a muscular build). I am now 175 thanks to my adoration for cooking & eating out, not to mention the 20 pounds I have gained since trying to conceive. I have an hourglass figure & a long torso. At a comfortable weight, my measurements are 36/26/38.

My family has a healthy genetic history (no cancer, heart disease, etc). Both my maternal grandparents are still alive at age 78 (and grandma, in particular, looks to be at least 10 years younger). People live well into their 80's on my mother's side of the family. I honestly cannot recall a premature death. My paternal grandparents both passed away many years ago from health problems related to smoking/drinking. My parents divorced when I was 3 months old and I really never knew my father very well, so I don't have a vast amount of information; however, I do know all health problems were related to smoking/drinking.

As for me, I'm a psychology major and intend to go into elementary education. I was placed in the \"gifted\" education program in the fifth grade, and remained there throughout high school. Growing up, I loved playing legos, barbies, riding my bike, and playing with friends. In high school I was heavily involved in theater (acting), mock trial, french club, drama club, academic decathlon, and puppeteering. My current hobbies include cooking, spending time with my hubby, playing with our dogs, traveling, and doing anything with our famlies (we're both only children and our parents get along quite well).

Well, that's a basic overview of who I am. I will include a current photo, as well.

I'm not entirely sure, to be honest. My husband and I have applied to an actual shared egg program in New Jersey, but we're in the very early stages of the application process. If you're interested in exploring a shared egg program in San Diego, we can probably work together to determine which facility would work best, costs, etc. Although the facilities here may not offer an official shared egg program, I would imagine they could quote us a price for creating our own. Then we could split the costs as we see fit. I really am open to traveling anywhere in the US. I'm just ready to be a mom and I'm very flexible with logistics. Feel free to email me at cernanec@hotmail.com anytime.

I am getting info for my daughter, and her husband they would not want their out of pocket to be more than $5,000 do not know if that would work for you or not.

$5000 for a donor or $5000 for everything? From what I understand, most IVF cycles are about $9000 before meds. Then the meds generally run about $3000. If your daughter is looking for an egg donor, she can typically expect to pay much more than this because donors often want to be compensated. I have heard that couples who use egg donors can expect to pay a good $15,000 per cycle.

Now, with the shared egg program, specifically at the facility I'm interested in using, the cost is about $8500, not including meds. Again, the meds will be an additional $3000. This pays for the egg retrieval, fertilization/incubation of the donated eggs, and transfer of donated eggs to her uterus, as well as transfer of non-donated eggs to my uterus. I end up paying for all of my own ultrasound/bloodwork monitoring throughout the follicular (egg growing) phase, and I pay for my own fertilization/incubation. My total costs end up being around $5000 tops (hopefully). So it saves money for both parties.

I should clarify that I do not expect anyone to compensate me directly for the donation of my eggs. I will be the one paying for my own ultrasounds/bloodwork, travel, and fertilization/incubation. The recipients will pay for all of my meds, the egg retrieval, their own fertilization/incubation, and embryo transfer for themselves as well as my own. So rather than the recipients paying a lump sum to me, they simply cover about 2/3 of the cost, while I cover 1/3 of the costs. All of these fees are paid directly to the facility we use.

I hope that makes a bit more sense.

That sounds like a really good price. Do you know what the costs are for the donor? Also, do they have a website or a contact number where I can get more information?

Perfect, I found it .. Hopefully they will respond in a timely manner. I have found that so many of the fertility centers take their sweet time, which is really unfortunate being that most of us have been waiting for an eternity as it is. If your daughter and her husband are interested in doing the egg sharing with my husband and myself, just let me know about costs and please put me in touch with someone at the facility. So that you're aware (and, of course, every other person reading this, haha), I am currently on day 3 of my cycle. I am starting b/c pills today to \"freeze\" my cycle and will be meeting with my RE in two weeks to start a medicated IUI round. I can, of course, cancel the IUI round anytime over the next couple of weeks and we could just move straight on to IVF/testing...basically whatever is necessary. Let me know if you and your family have any further questions for me or if you get any new information.

CNY said that it is about $5,000 for both the donor and recipient each and that does include meds and ultrasounds does the clinic in NJ include Storage and FET for 2 years ICSI and Assitied hathcing in their package?

I don't believe they offer any of those as part of the included fee, though I'm not entirely sure. If you wanted to check them out, they are called Cooper Center for IVF.

It sounds to me, though, like CNY is the best financial option for your daughter. I would need to make sure that their donor prices are flexible since I will need to do all of my monitoring locally.

I have a couple of questions for you, and I'll just apologize in advance because I tend to be pretty forward, very open with my thoughts/feelings, and fairly blunt (though respectful)...so I often expect the same from others. I'm just wondering how involved your daughter is in this process with you? My mother-in-law (whom I get along with fantastically) is extremely helpful and would be . or making phone calls in a second if it would help my husband and I in any aspect of our lives. I'd like to assume that your daughter knows you have contacted people, but unless I actually come out and ask, I won't know for sure. So to preserve my premature excitation at the idea of finding someone with whom to embark on this egg sharing journey, I just need to know how involved your daughter is in the process. Also, what are her thoughts on using a donor? Does she want to remain completely anonymous...does she want the donor to remain anonymous...does she want to retain the donor's contact information for future reference? I just need a clear picture of where we are going. I hope you understand.

I understand your concerns of course , yes my daughter is aware that I am conversing with you she had dental work yesterday and was kind of out of it. She and her husband are also considering a split-cycle at CNY as well as a shared but they had no one currently wanting to share that is where I found this website in a search. I have heard wonderful thinks about Cooper clinic.

Phew....good to know, thanks for your candor. Once your daughter is feeling better and has time to review my information, just let me know if you think my eggies may be a good fit with your family. I can then contact CNY to see what my costs would be and how the situation would play out. In the meantime, I have a telephone consultation with Cooper on October 23rd, and then they send out their donor list at the end of the month.

You should also know that my husband is active-duty Navy and will be commissioned as an officer following his college graduation in December. That means that we will be moving in December/January (likely to Corpus Christi, TX) and he will be on a ship. Our hope is to do our IVF cycle very early in the year...or sooner, if possible, before he is made to go on any deployments. Just let me know if you want to contact me privately. I posted my email address on this thread earlier.

We will discuss all the info thank you for responding so fast also if our situation does not click I think CNY can find someone to do a shared cycle with you, and you can have husbands frozen semen shipped ahead incase he can not be present at time of cycle they recommend this for out of town clients. Good luck!
