Bad experience

Bad experienceJust wanted to put our 2-cents in. We contracted with the firm in February and immediately found a person who we felt to be a great donor. Tiny Treasures seemed generally professional and immediately wanted us to give them $5000 and - of course - use their surrogate fund management service and lawyer, which we did. After this, we were delayed and then delayed again. Finally the planned donation was to take place in September (8 months later). We were patient, and we also agreed to have procedures performed in the state and at the practice of the donor's choice, which required air travel for us. Jump forward 7 months to August, a time after which we have flown down several times to the other practice and started procedures. Tiny Treasures EMAILS us at 5:30 pm on a Friday night to say the donor backed out. They must have shut off their phones and closed up their computers, as we could not get a hold of anyone at the Tiny Treasures Agency and had no response until mid Tuesday. We understand that donors back out, but we felt we ought to be able to know why. They didn't seem to know at first (until we pressed), and they suggested we call the hospital, which would have violated the donor's patient rights. That said, we eventually learned that issues arose about a month prior, so we were dumbstruck that no one had informed us earlier or -at least - in a better way. We said we understood and asked if they could give specialized help to find a similar donor. We were happy to pay more. We even proposed additional options to them. They became very rude at this point and said the best they could do (despite the advertisement on their site that they perform specialized searches) was give us a list of top performing donors. They sent us a list of girls with high SAT scores and advised us again that their may be a similar wait, etc. and there was nothing more they could do. The rep we worked with also promised that the head of the company would call us within two days to discuss the issue, but no one from the agency ever called us again. They had our $5,000 and didn't feel they needed to do more. In short, their sympathy for the situation was non-existent. After, we were sent multiple computer-generated emails to let us know of "new" donors, who were actually donors we had already seen in their database over the past 8 months. And - the final insult - when we tried to have our money returned from the surrogate fund management company associated with Tiny Treasures, it took MONTHS of persistent calling and emailing to get our money returned. Of course, we never got any part of our $5,000 back from Tiny Treasures. They did about 1 hour of work in about 9 months of time and made $5,000 for nothing, not even a speck of sympathy, which would have gone far and made this an otherwise positive interview. So you may think they're great, but if you ever have an issue arise, watch out. Their interest is NOT your best interest. On the positive side, I can highly recommend the hospital where we ended up and highly recommend their frozen egg program there. It is called Reproductive Biology Associates (RBA) in Atlanta, Georgia. Fast, efficient, professional, and compassionate. Despite all of the TT chaos that happened last year (2011), I am now 20 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby from one of RBA's egg donors and my husband's sperm. The women in the program there are not out there trying to sell themselves like prospective dates at match.com. They are all carefully prescreened donors who have been selected by the hospital and have already donated prior to you choosing them. That means no waits and no worries about their health status, psychological status, etc. It's been checked out already by the hospital. I just can't say enough good about the hospital, their staff, and the egg donor program. Our doctor was Dr. Brahma, and I loved her. Still do. Even though we live in the Philadelphia area and had received primary care at U of Penn, RBA blew them and every other medical experience we ever had away. Living as far away as we did also did not significantly add to the cost (much cheaper than the other route), and the inconvenience was minimal all things considered. So FWIW...
