Peespective NC Donor

Postby domino783 » Fri Sep 01, 2006 2:45 pm

I just wanted to get a little more information about donating. I'm a 23 graduate student, caucasian, brown hair/eyes, 5'4'', 110lbs. I am just recently married, but not looking to have children for several more years, and thought I it would be great to help out others rather than just \"wasting\" my eggs. I am also curently on the Pill to prevent getting pregnant myself, so my real question is will this be a problem with matching cycles and the rest of the donation process? And what all will i need to do to donate my eggs exactly?

Hi Christina,
No, being on the bcp will not afffect you being matched. You actually will be put on the bcp at some point during your cycle to supress ovulation while synching your cycle with your recipient's. You will also be sent for some testing (bloodwork and ultrasounds). Most clincs will also require your husband to be tested for drugs and diseases also. At some point you will begin giving yourself daily injections to stimulate you ovaries. You will have frequent bloodwork and ultrasounds to check your progress and once the doc thinks you are \"ready\" he will instruct you to give yourself what is called a \"trigger shot.\" You will go in for retrieval 35 hours after trigger. Most clinics put you to sleep for the procedure. It really is nothing. It only takes about 20 minutes. You may be a little crampy for the rest of that day and about a week out you may feel a little full or gasy, but nothing too bad.

Hope this helps...
