Response to A Perfect Match, any experiences?

Every donor I was interested in seemed to have a \"wait list\" a mile long. I am, to my knowledge, still on about 5 different wait list from NOVEMBER. They can't tell you when the donor will be available, and leave you feeling very uncertain about things. Maybe that changes if you give them a deposit, but I am not giving a deposit when I don't know which donors I might be able to use. I also find the high fees they allow appalling. I don't understand how they can have so many donors with \"negotiable\" fees or fees greater than $20,000. They seemed so hard to work with, I avoided them like the plague.

I have to tell you I was less than impressed with their director on the Today Show this morning.

Their director is very hands off.. and it's the office manager Becca who you will be dealing with. Becca can be very curt and mean .. and has told both myself, and another woman I know that we were just too picky... which I think is really not her place to make judgements as to what we are looking for. They are there to facilitate a match, if they can make one for you... if not -- it isn't their place to criticize the customer . I was able to find a match and a donor that I thought was great with another agency -- but Becca made me feel like if I couldn't find someone on their list -- the problem was with me.

I also found ultimately that there were always five people ahead of me on the waiting list for any donor I was interested in . Becca would tell me one time that I was first on the list -- but the next time, would tell me that I had misheard her. That's why you always want to get these statements in e-mail. One time she told me that a donor was unavailble because she was cycling -- and then I found that donor on another agency site -- available and not cycling.

I find they only a certain patience for you if they match you quickly-- if not -- their fuse gets short and they are less willing to be polite and civil in their dealings with you. That's one gal's experience. On the other hand.. they do get good donors with some excellent academics -- so if you can put up with their rather ungracious style -- and if you can actually get at the top of the list for someone you like -- then it may be worth it.

It's funny they thought you were picky, given their name ...

I'm sorry you went through those experiences with them. I always look at their website and though they seem to have some good donors listed, I'm put off by the marketing pitch and fees.

and I agree with Anon's appraisal of Becca. She's not the kindest/most understanding person. I also asked them to take me off their list multiple times before they did (I decided to donate with CNG). Afterwards she called me to check my availability and then was mad at me when I told her I was no longer willing to donate with them.
She also gave me the runaround with a potential match a year or so before I actually cycled. I now realize that it was probably the recipients that were giving her the runaround, but I cancelled a vacation based on her telling me I had been selected for a donation that never happened.

I placed ads in adddition to looking at agency sites. Some of the people I got responses from people were either on Perfect Match -- or signed up with them later. These donors were available when they responded to my ad -- but when I asked about them at Perfect Match -- I was told there was a waiting list of five people for the same donor who had answered my ad and said she was available! I can't figure out what that was about.. but it certainly was empowering and a relief to not have to deal with Becca!

They are rude and unreasonable. They turned me down to donate because of my weight (very high for a donor but not a threat to my health and hasn't caused in any issues with my donations...3 out of 4 resulted in pregnancy on the 1st transfer). I asked them what i would need to get it down to to \"qualify\" for them. I'm 5'4'' and they would accept me unless i dropped below 120 lbs. ha.

I also am not a fan--I was accepted into their donor program (5x successful at twin preg's on the first attempt, great 5-day embryo's leftover to freeze, the works--was looking for a 6th and final cycle), and even as a donor, I never knew what was going on, where I was in the process, nothing. And their \"medical director,\" told me that they would have to be \"extra cautious\" about which clinic IP's were working with since I tested positive for HPV once about 4 years ago. She told me it would make me difficult to match with IP's since that's a HUGE issue in the donation process. It has NEVER been even addressed in any of my prior 5 cycles, all which happened in that time frame. So I don't give a lot of credibility to what they have to say. She was also rude, and spoke to me like I was completely uneducated and naive about the whole process, when I have a J.D. and am a proven donor.

To address the negotiable fees, etc.--on the donor fee sheet they sent me, they required a $5000 fee range--they would not accept a round number without a range around it, because, as they explained, they want intended parents to be bidding on their donors. Totally ridiculous and way too profit-centered for my taste and conscience when choosing an agency to represent me.

Just my $.02...
