I inquired about a donor on Alternative Conception's website that appeared to match my criteria. It showed her birth year as 1980. They told me that she was new to their agency and they had \"just found out\" that she had already donated 6 times, which is the maximum per ASRM guidelines and for any respectable fertility clinic. They told me to ask my doctor to see if he would allow me to use this donor. Sure enough my doctor said no. The agency kept her on their website, even though they \"just found out and wasn't aware before\" about her donation history. Her fee was $10,000.
A month later I saw the same donor on another agency's site. They have her birth year listed as 1978, which I believe is correct because that agency had her entire birth date, not just the year. I emailed Alternative Conception about the discrepancy and thought they would get the info corrected. Either the donor is dishonest about her age (31 instead of 29), or the agency doesn't care enough to verify the info (even though they claimed they would) and continues to list her inaccurate birth year and mislead intended parents; or BOTH. This is very irresponsible. I hope in the near future the egg donation business could be regulated to protect the IPs. For now I would recommend to stay away from this agency, since they obviously don't screen their donors well enough.
